Melville is the smallest city in Saskatchewan, and was named after Charles Melville Hays. Hays was the president of the Grand Trunk Railway and the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway at the time of the settlement's construction. These railways are now known by their successor, Canadian National Railway or CN.
Today, a large portion of Melville's residents are employed by CN. This steady railroad work sees more and more families settling in town, ensuring a lively and youthful city. Residents benefit from many services, such as RCMP, fire, ambulance, waste management, a K-12 public school system, a K-12 Catholic school system, complete French immersion education, a local branch of the Parkland Regional College, multiple recreational rinks and various community groups. This close knit community has some of the kindest residents you'll ever meet.
