The town of Langenburg was one of the areas surveyed in the prairies during the 1880's. The land was fertile, allowing the federal government to lure in settlers with low price homesteading opportunities. This area of the province saw mostly German settlers, evident in the cultural ceremonies held in town to this day. The town's name actually derived from a German nobleman, named Prince Hohenlohe von Langenburg, who had visited Western Canada in 1883 and recommended this area to his country's emigrants as a more desirable place to settle than the United States.

Today, Langenburg is largely sustained by agriculture and resource mining, conveniently located on the Yellowhead (#16) Highway. Services to residents include ambulatory and medical care, RCMP, fire, senior rental units, a school for grades Pre K - 12, newspaper, waste, recycling, library and recreational facilities. You will find the quintessential prairie attitude here - friendly, honest and always willing to help a neighbour out.
