Ituna

The first settlers from Europe came to this area of the prairies under the tantalizing promise of owning 160 acres of land for $10. What they saw was unbroken prairie land, good soil, Poplar trees and little lake in the middle of it all. A CN railway was built soon after, and town settlers came after that.

Today, the town of Ituna is still largely sustained by its surrounding agriculture. The  black soil (mainly Oxbow loam) and good moisture lend themselves to a variety of crops.  Among those crops produced in the area are red spring wheat, barley, oats, rye, oil seeds (canola and flax). Specialty crops such as lentils, peas and canary seed can also be found. In the town, residents benefit from RCMP services, a local volunteer fire department, daycare services, a school for grades K-12, a health care centre, a senior centre, home care services, wellness clinics, a public library, a curling rink, waste and recycling services. The residents are down to Earth and friendly!
